When gutters are packed with leaves and debris, water has nowhere to go except over the edge - or worse, behind the fascia. That overflow is one of the most common causes of foundation issues, siding damage, and soggy landscaping. It's a slow problem that sneaks up on homeowners, especially on two-story homes where nobody's checking the gutters regularly.

Here's what we were working with on this one. The gutters were loaded up with compacted leaves and organic buildup - the kind that doesn't just wash out on its own. Left alone, that material holds moisture and creates a perfect environment for rot and pest activity. We cleared everything out before moving on to the next step.

After the cleaning, we installed gutter screens across the full run of gutters on the home. The screens sit flush along the top of the gutter channel and let water pass through while keeping debris out. It's a straightforward fix that makes a real difference - especially on a home surrounded by trees that drop material year-round.

The combination of a full cleaning followed by screen installation is the right way to do this job. Putting screens over dirty gutters just locks the mess in. We always start clean so the screens can actually do their job from day one.

Homes with heavy tree coverage need this kind of attention more than most. Gutters that are clear and protected just work better - water moves the way it's supposed to, and you're not climbing a ladder every few weeks to deal with the buildup.
