Moss and clogged gutters are one of those combinations that sneaks up on you. Neither problem looks that serious at first glance - but together, they can cause real damage. Moss holds moisture against your shingles and breaks down the material underneath. Blocked gutters mean water has nowhere to go, so it backs up, overflows, and starts working its way into places it really shouldn't be.

On this job, we were dealing with both. The gutters were packed with debris - leaves, organic buildup, the kind of stuff that accumulates when trees are close to the roofline. At the same time, moss had taken hold across the shingles. That combination is a slow drain on a roof's lifespan, and it's exactly the kind of thing that gets expensive if you let it sit.

We cleared out the gutters fully so water can move through the system the way it's supposed to. Then we handled the moss - removing what was there and applying treatment to the roof surface. The treatment is important. Just scraping moss off isn't enough. Without treatment, it comes back. The goal is to address the root of the problem, not just the surface.

What you're left with after a job like this is a roof and gutter system that's actually functioning. No blockages, no moss eating away at your shingles, no water pooling where it shouldn't. It's the kind of maintenance that doesn't get a lot of attention until something goes wrong - and by then, the repair bill is a lot bigger than the service would have been.

If your roof is showing green patches or your gutters are overflowing during rain, those are signs worth paying attention to now rather than later. Both issues are straightforward to handle when caught early.
